On Line Yoga Classes in Southampton

Sun Salutations are very helpful for making the body strong, supple and it awakens energy within the physical body.  Traditionally, they would be practised prior to starting a meditation course to help the body get in to a seated meditation posture. Sebastian also recommends practising Sun Salutations before beginning a meditation course (if your body will allow it), as sitting in a meditation posture can be uncomfortable if your body is inflexible. There are two videos below which demonstrate the Sun Salutation that Sebastian teaches. If you would prefer Sebastian to teach you Sun Salutation in person, please contact him an arrange a session.

The full version Sun Salutation can be quite challenging to those who are not used to Hatha Yoga exercises. If you are new to Sun Salutation then we may suggest that you may want to try out the half version below.

This version has been adapted from the original 'full' version for those of us who may want to work towards the full version. If you class your self as unfit, new to Hatha Yoga or if you are an elderly Yogi, then first try out the 'half' version. Please contact a doctor if you suffer from major health problems before attempting Sun Salutation.

About Sun Salutation

Sun Salutation is a complete exercise for the whole body. It is preferable to practice it at sunrise, but also at any time you feel stiff or low on energy. It stimulates cardiovascular system, helps to energize the body, strenghtens muscles and makes the body flexible and supple. The lungs benefit from the oxygen and the rising sun casts its beneficial influence on the body. It also prevents and regulates diabetes, skin diseases, constipation and appetite. Sun Salutation should not be done by pregnant women. We suggest practising each posture without forcing the body; also consult your doctor if you  have major health problems before practising Sun Salutation.

If you practices Sun Salutation 6 to 10 times a day for men, or 5 to 6 times for women, it 's benefits are equal to doing a one hour Hatha Yoga class. Sun Salutation tones and stretches every muscle group of the human body.

Sebastian recommends that you practice Sun Salutation prior to attending an Atma Kriya Yoga or meditation class. The purpose behind Sun Salutation is to energise your body and prepare it for meditation.
